If you are visiting Monterrey, do not miss the opportunity to visit one of the most recognized tourist attractions of Nuevo León: Las Grutas de García. Here you will find spectacular formations of stalactites and stalagmites in a 40-minute tour.
This natural wonder was once submerged under the sea in the time of prehistory, so you can find remains of marine fossils. It is estimated to have an age of 60 million years.
They were discovered in 1843 by the priest Juan Antonio Sobrevilla. Surrounded by desert and rocks, here you will find numerous caverns with a depth of up to 105 meters. To get to the top, it is necessary to take the funicular which takes 10 minutes to climb. The second way to climb is to do it by foot, the path is perfectly conditioned to do so.
Once inside, you can follow two paths. The first consists of a two-hour tour, and the second is a one kilometer tour through the interior of the caves with a duration of 45 minutes.
One of the most beautiful rooms is called "The Hall of Light", which is illuminated by a ray of light from a hole in the roof of the cave. Another very interesting room is "The Eighth Wonder" where the stalactites and stalagmites join to form a column. In "The hand viewpoint" you will find a stalagmite in the form of a hand.
To get to the Grutas de García you should take the highway 40 to Saltillo, Coahuila, leaving Monterrey, these are located only 30 kilometers from the state capital. If you want to visit every corner of this region I recommend you stay at a downtown hotel, such as BEST WESTERN Royal Court, which has the best facilities and the best service to make your visit an unforgettable moment.
